The Amish Gazebo – A Simplistic Way to Spruce up Your Backyard

Throughout history, royal palaces all around the globe have had luxurious gazebos scattered about their gardens. Palaces such as ‘Iolani Palace in Hawaii have centered their landscape design around the gazebo. What was once reserved for kings and queens however is now available for anyone’s home. Perhaps the most well crafted of all types of gazebos, the Amish version, is a testament to the hard work and skilled craftsmanship of those who build them. While the Amish are known for their simplistic way of life, you may be astounded by the stunning decorative features found on an Amish gazebo. Almost borrowing from Victorian era design, Amish versions can range in size and design, including single tiered roof, double tiered roof and extra large oval design. Most retailers offer their Amish gazebos in a variety of different variations including: decorative details along the roof line, different roof angles and curves, and additional built in bench seating around the inner perimeter.

The first thing to do when looking for an Amish gazebo is to check and see where it is made.  Unscrupulous retailers may try and tell you that their gazebos are made directly in Pennsylvania by highly skilled Amish craftsmen when they are actually made in Chinese factories. To ensure you are getting an actual Amish gazebo, contact the manufacturing company and see if you can order directly from them.

Most gazebos in general come in a variety of different forms. The first is a kit form where you simply have to screw the precut pieces of wood together with supplied nuts and bolts.  This is the most popular way to assemble a gazebo and should only take a weekend if you have a friend or two to help you put it together. Other ways of buying one of these gazebos include buying simply the plans and sawing all of the lumber yourself or having a professional come to your house to assemble the structure for you. Whichever method you choose, you can usually order the parts in either pine or cedar and paint them whichever color suits you after the gazebo is completed.
